The Problem: Posture ≠ Injury Risk

Workplace musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), particularly low-back injuries, cost the U.S. economy billions annually.

Most current ergonomic tools:

  • Detect non-neutral posture

  • Count repetitions

  • Use observational scoring methods

  • Provide generalized risk reports

But injury risk is not caused by posture alone.

It is caused by mechanical loading on the spine over time.

This allows us to compute a user-specific cumulative risk score based on mechanical loading, not just posture deviation.

Our Scientific Foundation: Biomechanics + Physics-Based Modeling

ErgonSense is grounded in established biomechanical principles of spinal loading and occupational ergonomics.

We combine:

  • Trunk kinematics (IMU-based posture sensing)

  • Load distribution data (pressure insoles)

  • Physics-based modeling

  • Machine learning classification

Laboratory data collection setup integrating Xsens IMU-based motion capture and Noraxon electromyography (EMG) to validate biomechanical modeling and risk prediction algorithms.
